Who We Are The Tri-Cities Patient Safety Coalition (TCPSC) consists of the four local hospitals (Kadlec Medical Center, Kennewick General Hospital, Lourdes Health Network and Prosser Memorial Hospital) along with the Benton Franklin Community Health Alliance and Battelle Pacific Northwest Division. Each of the hospitals appoints a representative from its staff to particpate in the regular Coalition meetings. The member organizations identify the patient safety issues that become the work of the Coalition. The group undertakes about two projects per year, the exact number dependant upon the complexity of the issue and the type of analysis to be performed.
Brief History In 2004 Battelle proposed that risk engineering techniques developed for high risk processes and industries such as the production of nuclear power and commercial aviation could be employed in the health care arena. Battelle initiated a collaboration among three Tri-Cities hospitals and guided them through their first application of Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) to health care processes. The first effort was highly successful (link here). The Coalition took on its identity in 2005 to build upon that early success and to advance patient safety on the behalf of the community. A fourth hospital joined the Coalition in 2006. |
